In the 2005 batch, 26 out of 30 students made it to IIT while 28 cleared the examinations in 2006 – this despite the fact that IIT changed the examination pattern. The following year 28 more students achieved the IIT dream and finally in 2008, for the first time all of the Super 30 cleared the IIT JEE. In the same year Abhayand parted ways from Anand Kumar due to internal infighting and left the Super 30. Anand’s former students also joined as teachers for the Super 30 and in the year 2009, all 30 students again managed to clear the IIT JEE. 2017, results of which were announced on June 2017. Kumar plans to expand the selection criteria nationally so that candidates across India can take advantage of this.
Historically, only economically disadvantaged students from Bihar have been admitted to the program. Talking to media persons after the 2017 results – Kumar said “I am happy that all 30 candidates have cracked the IIT-JEE Advanced this year, now the time has come to give Super 30 a much-needed expansion. We will now organise tests for selecting the students in different parts of the country and give all the details on the website”. Following the popularity and success of Super 30, many individuals and institutions came forward to give financial assistance to Super 30 providing for better infrastructure, for accommodating more students, etc.
